Why We Drove It: The Lincoln MKZ’s predecessor, the Zephyr, was the top-ranked entry premium vehicle in the J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study. The MKZ is also called a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
In surveys that J.D. Power and Associates has conducted with verified owners of the Lincoln MKZ, the people that actually own one told us what they like and don’t like about their car. Note that the data below relates to the 2009 MKZ, which is similar to the updated 2010 model.

What Owners Like:

“[I like the] size. It’s not too small or large.”

“Solid, conservative looks.”

“Car is sleek, sporty, elegant with good gas mileage.”

“Styling is sporty, yet elegant.”

“It is a beautiful car, and a pleasure to drive.”

“Driving is a true pleasure. Love the car!”

“Excellent pick up, acceleration.”

“Engine [is] efficient, smooth, [with] plenty of power [and] acceleration.”

“Gas mileage [is a] pleasant surprise.”

“Gas mileage is exceptional, especially on the expressway.”

“[I like that it] uses regular gas.”

“Very quiet at highway speeds.”

What Owners Don’t Like:

“Doesn’t have 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty.”

“Fuel economy not quite as expected.”

“Gas mileage not great.”

“Gas mileage not as advertised.”

“Handling is soft. This is not a sports car.”

“Rear styling too gaudy.”

“I wish the rims were classier looking.”

“Seats too small, not comfortable.”

“The seats are very hard.”

“Front seat should be wider.”

“Seats [are] very hard to get out of.”

“Not enough headroom.”

“Front and rear headroom makes [it] difficult getting in and out.”

“Need another storage compartment in [the] front seat.”

“Need more front seat cupholders.”

“Not enough cup holders, or rear leg room.”

“Not enough head and leg room in rear seat.”

“The armrest needs to be a little longer.”

“Glove compartment [is] too small.”

“The steering wheel should be leather-wrapped all the way around and be slightly smaller in diameter.”

“Wiper/lights lever is awkwardly located.”

“Ash tray [is] too small, inconvenient location. No rear ash trays for smokers.”

“Trunk has no handle to grasp when opening.”

“Trunk [is] hard to open.”

“Trunk doesn’t pop up.”

“Trunk doesn’t go up when you hit release.”

“Trunk difficult to close [and] latch.”

“Trunk needs some kind of closing device.”

“Trunk/cargo space is too small.”

“[I don’t like] that darned donut tire for a spare. Hate them.”

“Hood is not spring [supported] so you need to lift it and hook rod.”

“The car should come with a spoiler like the Fusion does.”

“No front hood ornament as on previous Town Cars.”
